Samantha Stokesberry

  • Hi there, I'm Sam! My goal as a licensed professional counselor is to provide my clients with a welcoming space where they can safely explore their past experiences, grow in curiosity and insight, and learn to adapt effectively in the midst of life’s challenges. I am passionate about partnering with teens and adults of all ages, specifically those who have experienced challenges involving past traumas, relationship anxiety, family dysfunction, and sexual abuse.

As a counter-trafficking professional, I also have over ten years of experience specializing in recovery work with women and minors who have been sex trafficked in the USA and abroad.

Throughout our sessions, I will be using a counseling approach that is grounded in Bowen Family Systems Theory and trauma-sensitive principles. This approach allows me to view my client within the context of their family system and to prioritize my client’s safety and autonomy as they work toward understanding their relational dynamics with others and learn to define their sense of self. During sessions you can expect me to ask open-ended questions, talk with you in a conversational manner, draw and teach concepts on the whiteboard, and listen intently when you share your thoughts and feelings. There will be times when we may laugh together, dig deep together, challenge each other, and even cry together.

Lastly, clients who wish to integrate their religious beliefs or spirituality into our counseling sessions are free to do so! The beliefs, cultures, identities, and worldviews of my clients will always be respected and honored in my office.

*As a non-profit since 1990, GCR gladly offers reduced fees to anyone who needs one, based on individual need and current availability. If reduced fee slots are at capacity, I will gladly put you on a waiting list and alert you when one becomes available. While GCR is not currently a part of any insurance plan, we can offer our clients paid-in-full receipts of service after each session or as a monthly superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider for a possible reimbursement claim. Prior to scheduling an appointment, I suggest calling the number on the back of your insurance card to inquire about your “out-of-network” insurance benefits and to learn about how to submit an out-of-network reimbursement claim with your insurance company.
